Rebel: Tiresome, justifiably vague time tablet characterizing Stallone, pre-stardom, as a disassociated political extremist (a fascinating balance to Rambo). Cast includes Antony Page, Sylvester E. Stallone, Rebecca Dirties, and Henry G. Sanders. (112 minutes,’74)

Alias Nick Beal: Allegory of the Devil (Milland) corrupting the truthful congressmen (Mitchell) with the help of trollop Stumble. This is a fascinating drama with an unusually wicked Milland. (93 minutes,’49) Cast includes Ray Milland, Audrey Stumble, Thomas Mitchell, George Macready, and Fred Clark.

The Little Theatre of Jean Renoir: A quartet of little stories in reference to human respectability and the beneficence of country living (instead of subsisting in a dehumanized city forest). Renoir’s celluloid swan song might not be amid his best, however still has much to offer. Cast includes Jeanne Moreau, Femand Sardou, Francoise Arnoul, Jean Carmet, Marguerite Cassan, and Dominique Labourier. (100 minutes,’71)

Lantana: An adult story of relations obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose matrimony has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he examines the disappearance of a lady whose own matrimony is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)

Bootleggers: An action comedy set in’30s Arkansas with Koslo and Fimple trying to outsmart and outdo opponent moon shining family when running their booze to Memphis. Cast includes Paul Koslo, Dennis Fimple, Thin Pickens, and Jaclyn Smith. (101 minutes,’74)

Seaside Players: A group of adolescents performing at seaside resort prepare for a talent competition which is to be the highlight of the summer season. Cast includes John Leyton, Mike Same, Freddie and The Dreamers, Ron Moody, and Liz Fraser. (94 minutes,’65)

Prophecy: A classical musician and her physician spouse quarrel over what appears to be gigantic salami in upstate Maine after mercury turns animals into large mutants and worse. A ludicrous terror film that is excellent for a few chuckles. Cast includes Talia Shire, Robert Foxworth, Armand Assante, Richard Dysart, and Victoria Racimo. (95 minutes,’79)

The Great Man Votes: A straightforward, authentic, admirable film of Barrymore, once a professor, now a divorced man, battling for custody of his youngsters. Cast includes John Barrymore, Peter Holden, Virginia Weidler, Donald MacBride, and William Demarest. (112 minutes,’39)
