Light emitting diodes or LEDs are appearing in more and more products. Flashlights are a typical example of this - using new technology in old products. If they are becoming so popular what are the advantages of LEDs over traditional bulbs?

At low energy levels, LEDs are much more efficient than normal bulbs. Any heat that is produced is wasting energy and decreasing efficiency.

LEDs are much less fragile than glass bulbs and can usually survive being dropped with no damage. This combined with efficiency are their two major advantages.

This fact has also made LEDs very popular in headlamps for hikers and climbers, particularly on longer expeditions. Not having to worry about a globe burning out is also important when far from civilization.

Though such technology comes with a very expensive price tag, LED LCD TV still stirs interest among television enthusiasts. Pioneer brands have emerged with their own models but two brands appeared to be more competitive - the Samsung A950 LED LCD and the Sony XBR8 Series.

The manufacturer competition grew even hotter that Samsung released their A950 series while Sony created the XBR9 series of LCD LED TVs and LG introduced their LG 47LG90. LG and Samsung models sell at around $3000 for a 46 inch screen like the Samsung LN46A950 while 44 inch versions are priced at roughly $4000.

Sony’s three-color LED system is coined as Sony Triluminous Technology which is powered by one blue LED and two green ones. Sony explains that such technology will improve color purity of images. This perhaps could be a reason for their more expensive price tag.

ince LCD LED TV technology is technically quite new, improvements wills still be made in the years to come. Not that this isn’t the right time to buy a LED LCD TV; but if you will consider things carefully and manage to realize that your needs could be met in a less expensive model, you will see that it would be more rational to get a more affordable model.

ut then again, it will all depend on your requirements of a good LED LCD HDTV. If Sony’s Triluminous technology appears to you more, and if you have the budget for it, then go buy it.

Also, Vizio, which has just taken over the number two spot (over Sony) as the largest plasma HDTV supplier in the United States (4th Qtr. 2008), has just announced that they will be discontinuing plasma production in the next few weeks of this writing. I believe that speaks volumes for the future of HDTV.

With all of the amazing features of these Samsung LED DLP HDTVs, you must be asking yourself, ‘is everything completely perfect with these HDTVs ?’ Well, although they do have SRS audio, the audio could be a little better. Since most people will be immediately plugging in to a home theater system though, even this isn’t a real concern.
